Contact Forms. Contact us pages
SEE BOX AT BOTTOM OF PAGE
I have now finished the improvements allowing our contact forms to work again. This time the contact email addresses will not be revealed on the web so that spammers cannot get them. Instead they are stored directly in the mail progam which is not readable without a login password. The mail program (and another file) will now be in a subfolder of each website called cgi-bin, so all sites will have a subfolder. You only need to think about this when you create a New website since you will have to remember to use Paste + upload changed files in folder and subfolders, rather than just Paste + upload changed files as at present. There might be a lot of email from people so I set up a new email address neil.web@plexos.com to receive email from the sites I am currently controlling. This will leave your current email account uncluttered. If this proves too much of a burden please let me know. The building in of a contact page is now included in the New website option. Also you can do it to an existing site by first creating a 'Contact us' page then using Link + Contact Form: Edit/Add with the 'Contact us' page as Display. This provides various prompts to assist you. After doing that you can do Paste + upload changed files in folder and subfolders. This will mean creating new email addresses I suggest alex.web@plexos.com etc INSTRUCTIONS BY NEIL:- When you create the Contact us page/form it'll make a subfolder (Information on how to do it is down the page). The mail program (and another file) will now be in a subfolder of each website called cgi-bin, so all sites will have a subfolder. [NOTE FROM JOHN: some servers don't allow cgi-bin as a subfolder of the site. So a new option has been added to allow you to change the cgi-bin server folder, however, try it first with the original, if it doesn't work contact John or Neil and we can give you the correct server folder to use. All sites will still have an offline subfolder just the same but the online folder can be in a different place] When you have done this Contact Us form remember to use Paste + upload changed files in folder and subfolders rather than just Paste + upload changed files as at present. I will be creating different e-mail accounts for all of you so your current account e-mail won't get cluttered. Depending what program you're using to receive e-mail you might be able to setup a "rule" that can move e-mails sent to your new address go into a different folder so they are separate. Your address will be name.web@plexos.com and I will e-mail your e-mail passwords etc shortly. When/if I do a website for you (Framework) I will more than likely add your e-mail details in the contact form already so you won't have to edit it, but then again I might be doing frameworks for different sites I don't know who will get it so you may have to add/edit the contact form yourself. How to add the Contact Form for your current/previous websites: -------------------------------------------------- 1. Go to the homepage and do the below. · New + New: Page - Title: Contact us + OK [NOTE FROM JOHN: You should also untick the left 'link from Display' box so that it won't put a link in col3 of the homepage to the Contact us page.] Now you're on your 'Contact us' page you've just made do the below. Link + Contact Form: Edit/Add ? A box will popup 1. Contact form title: Contact Form 2. Subject: Quick Message 3. Leave Sendmail program location how it is. Default: /usr/sbin/sendmail 4. Postmaster E-mail Address: - Leave this address. 5. E-mail Address for receiving messages: pascal.web@plexos.com OR thomas.web@plexos.com OR steve.web@plexos.com 6. It then may ask to upload something, just click OK and it?ll upload those files. 7. It then may ask you if you want this page to be the ?Contact us? page and that it will edit the clickboard, just click OK. 8. The Contact us link in the clickboard should now go to the form you've just created. Go to the homepage and do Link + Clicked block: Delete and click the ?Contact us? link in Col3 and it should delete the link but still keep the page, which you can access via the clickboard. [NOTE FROM JOHN: This step 8 won't be needed if you untick the left 'link from Display' box as advised above.] When doing the contact form page you may want to add information like this page: http://www.download-game.com/Contact_Us.htm
