- Quite a lot of help on Plexel and making websites.
Links Policy.
LINKS POLICY to our other sites ------------------------------- Links.htm page -------------- All things considered I think the Links Policy on the Links.htm page should be just to have links in col2 to the other of our sites that are relevant. Don't worry about the one-way link argument for now, just link where relevant because it is more correct to do so rather than trying to pretend that our cross links are truly independant when they are not. So for a hotel site we could have links to all our other hotel sites as well as links to say 247selfdrive and 247airlineTickets.com plus other relevant ones. But not link to say pusscats.com since it is irrelevant. Other pages in the site ----------------------- If one of our sites fits the bill for an external link then by all means put it in col3 like a normal external link to the best independent sites for the page topic but have a note saying that this link is to one of our own sites. So links to our other sites could be spread around the pages not just in the Links.htm page. This is recommended. Clickboard ---------- Have a "Our Related Sites" section if there is room and put in links to our most related sites if it seems sensible to do so. Maximum 10 links so as not to crowd the page. So the hotels sites could have links to some/all of the other hotel sites for example. OurOtherSites.htm etc pages ---------------------------- We can leave the pages Our Other Sites, Friends Links, and Our Games Sites as they are for now even though it contravenes the above Links Policy. That is because I don't like deleting pages. -------END OF LINKS POLICY ------------ Further comment:- ----------------- With external links to our other sites we have two conflicting interests:- 1. ONE WAY IS BEST. A one way link is like when an independant site on a different server links to us. This is an indication that we have a good site and Google will mark us up for that especailly if the independant site has high PageRank (see below). If we also link back to the independent site (two way linking) this can be bad since Google canassume we are collaborating in Link exchange (false links). Therefore the value of the link is worthless and not a true indication of a good site. 2. TWO WAY IS BEST. For the logic of things we would normally do two way linking. So all the hotel sites would interlink for example. 3. Most of our sites are on the same server and this can be picked up anyway and indicates non-independent linking. So even if we try one way linking it might not help. Therefore I am suggesting that we may just as well avoid trying to 'cheat' by doing one-way linking. let's just put the links in as we see fit. SEE BOX AT BOTTOM OF PAGE
Page Rank ----------- This is the link popularity of a site. On a scale of 0 to 10. High page rank sites that link to a lower one pass on some of their page rank to the lower one and help get the lower one noticed. With the google toolbar if you are using Internet Explorer you can see the page rank of the site you are browsing. http://toolbar.google.com/googlebar.html If you are using Firefox or Mozilla you can use http://googlebar.mozdev.org/ or if you don't want the googlebar you can display pagerank in the browser status bar. This is what I use. http://pagerankstatus.mozdev.org/installation.html There are downloads for Firefox anfd Mozilla.
