More on Lateral Terms. Main page for Lateral Terms.
Before going on to make the blueprint, a set of lateral terms should be produced and listed in the site notes. In doing a new blueprint I think it is a good idea to submit the list of lateral terms to me and Paul before going on to do the popularity searches based on those lateral terms. The list of lateral terms can then be put in the site notes for reference. Also, we might spot something that has been missed. I can't help remembering how we might have missed 'foosball' is the american term for table football if it weren't for the lateral search. There is more info on Lateral Terms in the col1 and col3 links off this page. SEE BOX AT BOTTOM OF PAGE

Lateral Terms that add nothing new
Example for muscovites.com Even though I have explained it before I am not sure if everyone knows how to do a blueprint. You start with some obvious terms about the site. In this case 'Moscow', 'Russia' or even 'Muscovites' and do a wordtracker Lateral search on them. From those results you select other specific suitable terms like 'soviet union', 'ussr', but ignoring general terms like 'history' that are not specifically about the topic. For 'soviet union' etc you also input this as another lateral search. You may well see many repeats of terms you saw previously but there may also be unexpected good ones that pop up. Carry on like that until it becomes clear what the set of lateral terms are specifically to do with the topic and you feel you have exhausted all the possibilites. From this set of terms you then do wordtracker popularity searches to get the detailed terms (with scores) from which the blueprint can be constructed. If you do not do the lateral terms searches rigourously then it is possible you will miss a whole section and only produce half a website. For example for table football if we had not done lateral searches then we would never have know that 'foosball' was the american term for the topic and in fact had many much higher scoring terms (like Foosball Parts, Foosball Men) than did 'table football'. So the lateral searches sometimes enable us to uncover main terms about the topic we might otherwise miss, and which do not contain the term searched. On the other hand the popularity searches always include the term searched e.g. 'moscow' gives 'moscow times 83', 'moscow hotels 69', and as such are quite a different kind of search than the lateral search. Can you let me have a list of the Lateral terms for tires/tyres just to check that the blueprint is comprehensive and we are not missing another 'foosball' Just to recap the urls are:- Lateral search http://wordtracker.com/database/frames/loadframes.php3 Poularity search (with scores). Enter lateral terms in box. After that you can also use 'Dig'. http://wordtracker.com/database/frames/popularitysearchframes.php3?frames=on&userkeyword=x1y4z5 For popularity you can also click the results of the lateral search. First of all we pick some obvious terms to do with the site like 'Russia' and 'Moscow' and type them in the Lateral search. This will produce lists of other related terms. What we look for here are terms that are specifically about the site, e.g. 'KGB', but not 'hotels' because it is too general. So you make a collection of all such terms, I call these 'Lateral terms'. You even enter these back into the Lateral search to see if you can come up with any more new Lateral terms. Once you have the list of lateral terms you can use them to find the popularity terms from which the blueprint is constructed.
